This clay incense plate has a jolly Ganesh sitting in the middle of a multi-coloured abstract lily design painted onto a bright pink pastel base. He is surrounded by a band of yellow colour. The incense plate is cast and the artwork begins. The plate is hand-painted and so exudes that unmistakable handmade and individualistic quality. Twenty-one men and women are employed in this New Delhi based business and some work in the factory, others work at home. All employees are provided with medical aid in addition to statutory wages, and twice a year they have a works get-together celebratory lunch. More practical than the traditional boat burner style incense holders as the dish can catch the spent ash from any angle and can be used with sticks or cones as cones can be placed in the dish.
