Dori Embroidered Cushion Cover

SKU: CC792
Product Description

Dori is a form of Indian embroidery used for emphasis and outline. Traditionally worn by the ruling classes, a thick metallic thread is overlaid and hand-stitched or ‘couched’ at intervals. Beads are sometimes added and examples of this technique have been discovered dating from 30,000 BC! It is a clever and effective technique brought bang up to date in both technology and style in this cushion cover. Paradoxically it is machine-embroidered in a deliberately rudimentary and simple way, in muted tones and a pastel palette. This textile manufacturer employs four hundred people who receive insurance to get free medical treatment for all the family, pensions and interest free loans.  They also support several charities. Other traditional techniques are used including hand-weaving, hand embroidery, sequins, cutwork, tie-dye, block and screen printing. Materials can include recycled cotton, denim, sweet wrappers and saris. They have an excellent team of young people who are energetic and committed to a new vision. The pebble grey matt background adds to the rustic charm of this cushion cover and would bring the simplicity of Scandi Boho style to any home.
