When companies cancel orders, more often than not, the raw materials have already been purchased. Leaving the factory out of pocket and with fabric that they may not be able to use for other companies orders. This creates waste. Last October, we explored the store rooms of one of our favourite supplier factories, owned by Pallavi and Rajiv. They told us the tales of cancelled orders over the years, and showed us stacks of waste, surplus to requirement, beautiful vibrant materials. We decided to make it our mission to create new products from the fabric which was already there. And so, we introduce our first products to the Surplus collection, a stunning range of throws, which used up a huge stack of surplus fabric from an order cancelled a few years back.

Who made this?
This supplier employs 60 people (both men and women) , half of whom are cottage workers ( people who work from home ) 20 are employed at the factory and 10 are sub-contractors. Employees receive benefits in addition to statutory wages, and are happy with the working environment and are mostly long -standing members of the company. This company supplies us with beautiful textiles ,cushions and scarves, they use cotton ,polyester and jute fabric and recycled plastic bags and cotton fibre in their work, and on the subject of recycling, environmentally a water harvesting tank is in place and factory improvements are an ongoing process.
